A lawyer in continuous practice since 1992 (Palacio y Asociados, Abogados), Urquiola de Palacio has experience in civil (continental), European, international, and commercial law (among other functions, she was outside counsel of the Commercial Law Counsel of Banco Central Hispanoamericano, S.A. from 1993 to 2001).
Ms Palacio’s experience in constitutional and human rights law (before the Spanish Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights) was recognized by her inclusion by the Government of Spain on its list of candidates for judges ad hoc before the European Court of Human Rights.
Ms Palacio is also a referee, and member of the Spanish Court of Arbitration (under the Superior Council of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Spain), the Court of Arbitration of Madrid (Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid), the Court of Arbitration of the Madrid Bar Association, as well as international referee in the Civil and Commercial Court of Arbitration (Corte Civil y Mercantil de Arbitraje-CIMA). She has participated in arbitrations in law and equity, both as counsel and secretary, as sole arbitrator, as co-arbitrator and as president of arbitral tribunals.
She is member of the Governing Board of the “Club Español del Arbitraje”. She is President of the International Union of Lawyer’s (UIA) Commission on “The future of the lawyer”, as well as member of the UIA’s Governing Board. Ms Palacio is also Vice President of the Madrid Bar Association’s Institution Protecting the Orphans of the Law Profession. She is member of the Board of Directors and counsel of the Spanish Association of Friends of the Castles.
Ms Palacio is a professor at the Pontificial University of Comillas ICAI-ICADE in the Master of Access to Legal Profession program where she teaches litigation before the European Court of Human Rights.
Ms Palacio was a member of the Governing Board of the Madrid Bar Association and a member of the Inter-professional Union of Madrid. She has been a Member of the Board of the Madrid Bar Association for two terms and served as a member on the Committee on Resources. She has been a member, Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Board of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law at the Complutense University. She was also a member of the Board of the Debate Club SIGLO XXI.
The Madrid Bar Association bestowed an honorary membership on Ms Palacio in recognition of her work as Counselor of the Council of the Madrid Bar Association and for her work in favor of the legal profession during her professional career.
Born in Madrid on 9 December 1967, she has a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid. She studied at the Lycée Français de Madrid, obtaining both the Spanish and the French (major in economy) baccalaureats.
